Dr. Henri-Xavier Vray,
who lives in the beautiful Vendee (#85) region of France, is a medical
doctor, psychiatrist, founder and director of the Geriatric Psychiatry
Centre-Centre de Court Sejour/Short Stay Unit-at the
Centre Hospitalier G. Mazurelle-Hopital Sud (EPSM), in La Roche-sur-Yon,
France. A previous initiative he undertook in the Vendee region was the development
of a medical-social centre where older people with depression or dementia
could live, and be cared for by nursing staff specially prepared to address
the unique needs of this population.
His research interests are in the following areas: the effects of music
on people with dementia/narrative analysis; interventions for adults experiencing
sexual aggression; and selected areas of psychoanalysis. He would welcome
graduate students to do their dementia; understanding the illness narratives
of older people experiencing practicuums in Geriatric Psychiatry, particular
doctoral students in medicine, nursing, psychology, social work, and students
at any level of their music, art, dance, and drama therapy.
He is currently
preparing a review of a recent book: LeNavenec, C., & Bridges,
L. (Eds.). (2005). Creating connections between nursing care and the creative
arts therapies: Expanding the concept of holistic care. Springfield, IL: Charles C Thomas.
